OER Workshop for Unisa's Institute for Open and Distance Learning in May 2014.

This hands-on workshop moves the focus from design to development of blended and online courses. It comprises a series of activities to be carried out individually or in small groups that will enable participants to make technology decisions regarding the implementation of their learning design using appropriate Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The workshop will guide participants in selecting appropriate tools to match pedagogical purpose, followed by the development of a balanced variety of teaching and learning activities in a blended or online project.

The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in the selection and use of FOSS to support their teaching and learning context. Participants will have the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with others in the group. Starting with a common virtual learning environment (Moodle) as a core application within which to develop a user-friendly course environment, the group will explore the embedding of some useful basic rich media enhancements.

This hands-on workshop follows on from the ‘Learning Design in the Open’ workshop at OUT in October 2013, moving the focus from design to development of blended and online courses. The workshop presenter will share lessons learned in the use of FOSS in HEIs across sub-Saharan Africa.

This hands-on workshop draws on the latest thinking on learning design. In order to determine a workable way forward to design our courses, we will start by examining a number of current methodologies including that which is currently used at OUT. A series of practical activities guided by the 7Cs of Learning Design Toolkit will be undertaken in small groups, which will enable us to reflect on our current learning design project. The workshop will help us to develop a balanced variety of teaching activities to address the wide range of expectations of adult learners in the 21st century, and to reuse Open Educational Resources (OER) where appropriate.

WELCOME TO THE CSIHE COURSE (CSIHE)

This is a collaborative blended learning course for higher educators run by academics from the Universities of Stellenbosch and the Western Cape. The module engages with the notions of community, self and identity in relation to difference and social inclusion in higher education. We hope that you will enjoy this journey with us!

The aim of the AgShare Planning and Pilot Project is to create a scalable and sustainable collaboration of existing organizations for African publishing, localizing, and sharing of teaching and learning materials that fill critical resource gaps in African MSc agriculture curriculum and that can be modified for other downstream uses.

The workshop provides an introduction to and exploration of online learning topics, tools and technologies that would lead to the implementation of instructional technology methodologies and practice related to online integrated distributed learning environments deployed within higher education.
